Stepping Out Into the Future

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

“STEPPING OUT” INTO THE FUTURE – D1GP USA INTRODUCES PRO 1 ADVANCED COMPUTERIZED SCORING TO PROFESSIONAL DRIFTING

– Judges to Use Data from “DriftBox” Derived System to Help Determine Scores –

LOS ANGELES (February 9, 2009) – D1GP USA ( www.d1gp.com ), the motorsports industry’s premier drifting series, announced today its judging procedures for the 2009 season will include the use of a comprehensive telemetry based data acquisition and video system to provide a more accurate and transparent method for scoring. Dubbed the D1GP USA PRO 1, the system will provide drivers with a level scoring field that dramatically increases the accuracy of the scoring process. D1GP USA has also announced its head judges and Competition staff for the series. The head judges will include “Drift King” Keiichi Tsuchiya, D1 Grand Prix, Option Magazine & Tokyo Auto Salon founder Daijiro Inada and TV announcer and former driver Manabu Suzuki. Terence Jenkins will act as the SVP of Operations and the events Competition Director while Chiaki Goto will serve as the events Technical Director.

D1GP USA PRO 1

Based on Racelogic’s highly successful “DriftBox”, the D1GP USA PRO 1 utilizes new proprietary algorithms and is able to measure a driver’s drift angle with 0.5 degree of accuracy, speed within 0.1mph and lateral g loads within 0.01g. This data is calculated 10 times per second and transmitted from the competition vehicle via telemetry directly to the scoring table. D1GP USA will also utilize the Racelogic Video VBOX system. The Video VBOX is a high quality solid-state video recorder combined with a GPS data logger and real-time graphics engine. This will record the action from inside the vehicle during competition and overlay the PlayStation style graphics on screen showing drift angle, speed and g-force loads.

Scoring

Scores for drift angle, speed and lateral g-forces will be taken from the data provided by the D1 GP USA PRO 1, with each representing a large percentage of the overall score. Line will be scored by the judges along with the final component – style – the only subjective criteria determined by the average of the three D1 Judges’ scores.

The Judges

Each D1GP USA event will be scored by a three judge panel, consisting of two appointed American judges (not yet named) and one of the following head judges:

Keiichi Tsuchiya

A professional driver and also known as “Drift King” otherwise as Dorikin for his nontraditional use of drifting in non-drifting racing events, and his role in popularizing drifting as a motorsport. He is also known for touge (mountain pass) driving. Tsuchiya will be the head judge at the Miami , Philadelphia and Chicago D1GP USA events.

Daijiro Inada

Inada may be the largest celebrity in Japanese automotive culture. He is most notably the founder of Option Magazine and its video spin-off series, creator of the D1 Grand Prix series, and founder of the Tokyo Auto Salon, which is the largest automotive event in the world. Daijiro Inada is the heart of Japanese automotive culture and will be an alternate head judge for the D1GP USA series.

Manabu Suzuki

A former driver, journalist, sport announcer and radio and TV presenter for the automotive industry, Suzuki competed in the Formula Toyota and Saurus Cup until the mid-nineties. He became well known for working with Option as a writer and presenter for the magazine’s offshoot video magazine, Video Option and Drift Tengoku . Suzuki is best known as one of the three original key judges (the other being Keiichi Tsuchiya and Manabu Orido) in the D1 Grand Prix series.

Competition Staff

D1GP USA has also named Terence Jenkins and Chiaki Goto, two of the most experienced people in the world of drifting, to its on-site personnel. Terence Jenkins will take the reigns as D1GP USA’s Competition Director. Jenkins founded Lateral G Racing and along with his driver Samuel Hubinette, the team went on to become crowned the first ever championship winning American drift team. Jenkins went on to form the WDC and since 2005 he has provided drift exhibitions, promoting the sport of drifting at major Indy Racing League events. Additionally, Terence ran Octane TV, a cable TV On Demand, Broadband and Mobile network focusing on automotive programming. Within three years Terence had developed a loyal audience of over 11 million. The longest running Octane TV show was “Drift Scene” which he dedicated to both Pro and Amateur drivers in the sport of drifting. Chiaki Goto will serve as D1GP USA’s Technical Director. A former endurance racing champion and Director of the 2003 JIC Magic Drift team, Goto brings his experience with drifting in Japan over to the United States to help support the growth of D1GP USA.

“In traditional racing the first person across the finish line wins, but drifting competitions are not so cut and dry. With the D1GP USA PRO 1 system, we are finally able to quantify many aspects of a drift and remove the subjectivity from the scoring process,” said Rich Goodwin, president of D1GP USA. “We also feel that we have put together a very solid team of the best known and most well-respected industry professionals to bring D1GP USA’s competitors and fans the best possible experience.”

Driven Events, Inc. (D1GP USA Management)

D1GP USA is operated by Southern California based Driven Events. The company licensed the rights to D1 Grand Prix in the United States in late 2008 and shares a long-term vision with D1GP Japan. Driven Events is made up of auto industry insiders, led by Hot Import Nights founders Rich Goodwin and Michael Munar. Goodwin and Munar partnered with Ed and Emil Arguelles, founders of Extreme Autofest, and brought on many of the original HIN & Autofest team members to help develop one of the best new drifting events in the U.S.

Red Bull Drift, 2008

past weekend was the Red Bull Drift event at Port of Long Beach, CA. because of the mountain fires, the weather was not great at all. grey sky with ashes flying every where. plus the exhaust fumes and tire smokes with rubbers every where. and of course as a typical asian, my cigarettes lol. second day got better. actually much more better. for a newbie like me, setting the camera was hard… but i guess i had some great shots out of thousands of shots i took. i was pretty surprised the numbers of the BRIDE seats on the outer USA region drivers. since BRIDE does not fit the un-ordinary JDM sizing, we have a nitch market. lots of show cars have it, but not many of the race cars. we will be releasing the type XL for the ZETA III so hopefully this can enlarge our market a bit. but yea, past weekend was great. below are some of the shots. to lazy to explain the event right now so lets have the flicks do all the talking 🙂 btw, Rhys Millen have took first. congrats!!

those were from the first day. now, the second day.

Chinese Drifting

i was searching looking for random videos on youtube and came accross to the video below. a short movie of a Tokyo Drift, or should i say Beijing Drift? a simple outline of the clip will be like this. a modified 350Z saves a pregnant women by drifting. hahahha i bet the baby will be popping out with the force of the drift lol but yea. funny but interesting clip. enjoy 🙂

Why a Full Bucket?

*BRIDE ZETA III(F31GMF) shown* of course FIA approved 🙂

so, why choose a full bucket? it does not recline, cant spread your legs, a tight fit, your girl friend hates it, etc etc etc. so what? lol well, not “so what” but… hahha. full bucket is only one of the choice from all the seats if you will be tracking your car, canyon driving, dirt driving drifting, or any of the other sport driving. full bucket type seat is to support the driver and to protect the driver. yes it will not recline because the strength of the seat will be partly lost because of the recliner mechanism between the top portion and the bottom portion of the two shells contouring the seat. yes you cant spread your legs like a gangsta driving because of the supportive side bolsters for human ergonomic reasons and to support your body roll from the causing interia from the vehicle movement. and its a tight fit with same reason. supporting your body. sorry if your girl friend hates it. but hey, think about it when she sits in the bucket. you might be able to get a free shot if shes wearing a skirt. you must be a gentlemen to open her the door to actually open HER door lol.

some people does not quite understand the need of full bucket seat. its not a must need item for a show car because your vehicle is going to a car show and it looks cool when you have them. we make them with safety as our main focus and to improve performance of the driver. for the car, it will be one of the weight reductions. but for the driver, it will affect your lap time. one of the magazines in Japan (forgot if it was Option Magazine or Rev Speed) have tested the seat at the track. first off with the stock seat’s time attack. lets say the lap time was 1minute flat as an example since i dont have the article with me right now. the switch the seat to the full bucket. the time is now 59.82seconds. why? how come its only a change of the seat and became faster? did it give extra horse power? it is because of the minor weight reduction and the driver’s controllability have increased with the full bucket seat’s support. because with the study of human ergonomics upon designing the seats, the seat gives you more allowance upon driving. with the stock seats, your body will move around like a little kid in those ballon filled house thingy. but with the supportive shoulder bolsters and the side bolsters, you have more contorl over the steering wheel with less intertia affecting you leading to a less “kid in the balloon filled house thingy”. lets have drifting as an example. you will be sliding around on the seat cracking your head open if you hit the roll cages. but with the full bucket, you will be securely be seated with much more less movement in the seat. with the full bucket seat, your eye level will be lowered as well just like you are changing your view on Gran Tourismo 5 on PS3 or any of those race games.

hopefully, more people can understand the existence of the full bucket seats and enjoy motor sport 🙂

MOONFACE

LOT USA will now be distributing products from MOONFACE. yes now we have a direct connection bonded together between us and MOONFACE. all of their overseas inquiry from the world will be fowarded to my email for service and any necessary procedures to be taken care of. not to mention, i am the marketing manager for LOT USA and yes i work…i dont just sign onto myspace and leave comments to all the peopleor be on facebook spreading those human pets applications poking people with hadoken lol. now that we are the official distributor of their products, we will have the items in stock. probably the roll center adjuster and the tie-rod end will be our current focus upon marketing.

so what is a roll center adjuster? basically, it adjusts the roll center… sorry that was b/s hahha. ok, so here is how the roll center adjuster works. when your vehicle is lowered, the roll center will be off numbered. the lower arm will be doing the Chun-Li’s “BANZAI” style, raising the two arms. same as how you get an camber when you lower you car and needs an allignment. basically, this product adjusts that difference of the raised lower arm to have the ball joint to the best setting close as possible to the manufacturer’s number. this will actually give you more cornering speed during time attacks and more smoke during drifting.

heres a picture that shows the two difference.

***Courtesy of MOONFACE***

the left image is without the roll center adjuster. the left picture is with the roll center adjuster. do you see the differece? i know the image a bit too small… i only had the image which i stole from the web. but hopefully, you guys can at least view the difference of the two. with this difference of the angle, the steering response and the tire traction will be much more improved.
